Heirloom Varieties
The majority of produce grown at Jacob’s Cove are heirloom varieties. Heirloom is the term used for seeds that have been passed down for generations because of their superior flavor, beauty and nutrition. They have not been altered (hybridized) so their seeds can be saved and will produce the same plant year after year. The fruit they produce does not generally ship well and is not always uniform in size. This makes them unsuitable for industrial agriculture. Thus, you won’t find these varieties at your local super center grocery store. But when we grow it here at Jacob’s Cove and pick it for you the day you pick it up, the taste is beyond description.
